Brooklyn Youth Chorus is seeking a full-time School Administrator with project management and team leadership experience, detail-oriented logistics skills, and strong communication capabilities to manage the external facing and internal administrative functions of choral programs at Brooklyn Youth Chorus. The School Administrator will lead the department in managing the seasonal and day-to-day operations of rehearsals, school programs, and electives (private lessons, group lessons, and workshops), setting up and overseeing program registration, organizing auditions and vocal assessments, contracting and supplying rehearsal spaces, maintaining the music library, and managing schedules and logistics for conductors, rehearsal managers, pianists, and electives faculty.



The School Administrator reports to the Director of Choral Education with oversight by the Chief Operating Officer and works in close collaboration with the program department. The Training Divisions Program Manager, Registrar, and Men’s Ensemble & Junior Ensemble Chorus Manager report to the School Administrator as do the rehearsal managers, accompanists, and program assistants. The School Administrator will work closely with the Outreach and Public School Manager, conductors, and electives faculty, and will collaborate regularly with the Director of Marketing and Communications, Production Manager, and development team.



Brooklyn Youth Chorus is an award-winning music education and vocal performance program for New York City children ages 7-18 of all levels of experience. Composed of training divisions leveled by age and ability and performing ensembles that participate in professional-level concerts and recordings, Brooklyn Youth Chorus is a collective of young singers and vocal ensembles that reimagine choral music performance through artistic innovation, collaboration, and an incredibly versatile range and repertoire. The Chorus draws students from across the five boroughs and combines intensive voice training and musicianship study with exceptional performance experiences. Children of diverse backgrounds come to the Chorus to share their love of singing, make new friends, and achieve and surpass their musical goals. Brooklyn Youth Chorus believes every voice matters and is committed to building and sustaining a diverse and inclusive community based on respect for each individual and an appreciation of our differences. To ensure access for all students the Chorus provides broad financial support for both chorus and elective music program tuition. Founded in 1992 by Artistic Director Dianne Berkun Menaker, Brooklyn Youth Chorus serves over 700 students in its core after-school and public school outreach programs. Classes take place at our Cobble Hill headquarters and neighborhood locations in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Cobble Hill, and Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn.




The School Administrator will:


Training Divisions Program Administration

  • Provide administrative strategy, structure, and guidance to the Program Team

  • Oversee full time Chorus Managers and Training Division Program Manager. Hire, train, and supervise seasonal, part-time rehearsal managers, accompanists, front-desk assistants, and program assistants including reviewing timesheets and time-off requests

  • Set work schedules and manage logistics for conductors, rehearsal managers, accompanists, front-desk assistants, and elective faculty

  • Manage hiring substitutes across all program areas as needed including maintaining sub rosters and availability, and communicating when subs will be in a classroom

  • Identify, vet, and  manage all rehearsal rental facilities and relationships ensuring that contracts are completed, venues meet requirements, and spaces have proper equipment and storage

  • Oversee music library maintenance to ensure scores are kept in good order and database is up to date

  • Regularly update emergency and safety plans and review them with the program team, and schedule annual safety activities (CPR Training, Fire Drills, Go Bags, etc.)

  • Together with the Director of Choral Education, maintain and update policies in the student handbook



  • In collaboration with the Training Division Program Manager, manage all communications including registration information, program schedules, chorus memos, and general program information 

  • Maintain updated program information on the Brooklyn Youth Chorus website, parent portal, and member area


Auditions and Registration

  • Schedule and implement the annual registration plan and timeline for all choral programming and electives including setting up, communicating about and closing registration for all programs throughout the year

  • Manage registration and student database system ready for each round of registration and maintain it throughout the year

  • Track and report enrollment and chorister statistics including monitoring individual rehearsal sizes and rehearsal section waitlists

  • In collaboration with the artistic and finance departments, oversee and administer fellowship and scholarship programs, manage the application processes, and monitor recipient adherence to scholarship requirements

  • Serve as primary contact for families addressing registration concerns

  • Schedule and implement the annual audition plan and timeline maintaining monthly audition dates and times


Annual Vocal Assessments

  • Schedule and implement the annual returning chorister vocal assessment timeline

  • Manage assessment scheduling for families to align with conductor availability

  • Communicate placement results to choristers and families



  • Schedule all weekly lessons and classes at the beginning of each term

  • Serve as primary contact for teachers, parents, and students

  • Supervise electives faculty (currently 5 teachers)

  • Together with the Director of Choral Education maintain and update Private Lessons Policies

  • Oversee preparation and logistics for both the winter and spring recitals and recital rehearsals including scheduling, program planning, and event management in collaboration with the Production Manager 


Public School and Outreach Programs

  • Provide administrative support to the Public School and Outreach Program Manager and manage logistics for school programs

  • Hire and supervise school program conductors, rehearsal managers, and accompanists


Performances, Events, and Activities

  • Manage all logistics (scheduling, staffing, etc.) for recruiting activities and events including open houses and bring-a-friend weeks, as envisioned by the Director of Choral Education and work closely with the Director of Marketing on promotion

  • Work closely with the Production Manager on winter and spring concert logistics

  • Plan all in-school activities including orientations, open rehearsals, and social events 

  • Together with the Production Manager oversee logistics for all additional community events and performances.



  • Belief in the mission and core values of Brooklyn Youth Chorus

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant school/program administrative or operational experience, with a proven track record of leading teams 

  • Excellent time management and project management skills with the ability to drive multiple projects simultaneously

  • A strong communicator with excellent written communication and oral presentation skills

  • Demonstrated success leading a team toward a common goal, emphasizing collaboration, respect, and high performance

  • Facility and competency working with and/or learning myriad digital communications, database, and music-related technologies and platforms including any of the following: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Mailchimp, Asana, FileMaker, and/or Soundtrap

  • Flexibility to work some nights and weekends

  • Must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher or equivalent experience 

  • Full COVID-19 inoculation by start date

Compensation and Benefits: 

$60,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits offered, including generous vacation package, medical, dental, and vision insurance.
